On June 28th, private investigators from across the country will head to San Diego for the West Coast Super Conference. Hosted by the California Association of Licensed Investigators (CALI) and presented by PI Magazine, the conference will have seminars on a variety of topics and recreational activities like an evening on the USS Midway, making this conference a great opportunity to get educated and have some fun. PInow.com spoke with CALI President Chris Reynolds for more details on what attending investigators can expect at the conference.
Why investigators should attend
"The benefit an investigator gets from attending the West Coast Super Conference is the chance to meet a diverse group of PI's and experts that become tools in your box for clients," Reynolds explains. He also notes the the networking opportunities allow individuals to showcase their experience, saying, "you can market yourself and your special skills as well as have personal contacts in cities throughout the West Coast."
Beyond individual marketing, many seminars examine the specifics of a variety of topics. "This three day event includes twenty different classes, seminars, or speakers on topics ranging from forensics, surveillance, report writing, advanced investigations, marketing, social network investigations and more," CALI President Chris Reynolds explains. "This is an opportunity to network with people throughout the country and develop new sources and resources for your business."
Exhibitors
Product and companies represented in the exhibitor showcase include data brokers, marketing companies, surveillance equipment, time management software, training books, investigator gear, insurance brokers, specialized investigative service and more.

Recreational activities
"You can learn more about a person playing golf than you can in an all day meeting," Reynolds notes of recreational events and activities. "These are place where you can form personal relationships, laugh and relax with your peers." Reynolds stresses the importance of of getting to know colleagues from across the country to create opportunities for business referrals. "These events give you the up close and personal contact you need to make the right choices for your clients," he concluded.
Recreational activities at the West Coast Super Conference include an evening at the USS Midway, a poker tournament for attendees, and multiple banquets and awards. The event at the USS Midway promises music and high end appetizers along with a chance to look at one of the great aircraft carriers of the world. "It is strictly fun, social and a networking event,"Reynolds explains.
Additionally, CALI will be presenting statewide awards for PI of the Year, the President's Award for outstanding service to CALI during the year, and a Distinguished Achievement Award, a lifetime service that is not presented every year. Reynolds noted that CALI will also be acknowledging those who have helped the association throughout the year, including directors and governors.
Speakers and topics at this year’s conference
With twenty different classes and seminars, the schedule for the West Coast Super Conference is packed with great speakers. "Diane Dimond is a terrific speaker," Reynolds notes of the conference's keynote presentation, "she is covering a large, national case right now and the reviews on her presentations were very positive." Reynolds also expressed excitement for Michelle Stuart's discussion of social media, Jack Trimarco's presentation on polygraph and interviews and Robert Shomer's eyewitness identification cases presentation.
"David Queen continues to amaze with the knowledge he poessesses on just about every possible problem a PI confronts each day," Reynolds added, "his legal knowledge and solutions have made him one of the most popular speakers in our history." Some of the vendors and exhibitors will also speak briefly about their services and products between each seminar.
