Investigators See Rise in Suspect Home Fires

MIAMI, FL -- Insurance companies have hired private investigators and state investigators are also working on a number of cases involving kitchen fires which have been deemed suspicious. Insurance investigators believe that some of these fires may have been specifically set so that homeowners could collect insurance money. The Division of Insurance Fraud reports that claims related to possible home arson has more than doubled between 2007 and 2011 in Florida. In South Florida, 28 such cases were reported in the past year alone. Two task forces have been set up in Florida to investigate the suspicious kitchen fires.
