Private Investigators in Britain

ENGLAND -- Britain has between 4000 and 5000 private investigators, and many of them are disgusted by the actions of a few investigators involved in the phone hacking scandal. Most of Britain's private investigators do their job according to laws, say industry insiders. The investigators do work that police investigators do not have the resources for and help companies with information-gathering. In Britain, the Institute of Professional Investigators (IPI) and the Association of British Investigators (ABI) are two professional organizations that promote private investigators and their work while raising awareness about the issues affecting the industry. IPI also offers training courses, but currently the industry is unregulated in Great Britain, something which upsets many industry insiders.
