New Driver Records Rules Could Affect Private Investigations

SAINT PAUL, MN -- Minnesota wants to increase control and oversight of some records, especially driver’s license records, especially after allegations of record misuse. Starting in late November, police authorities will be using a new search system to look for driver’s license records. Online access to the Driver and Vehicle Services records will also be more strict, and access for 48 private investigators has already been blocked. Private investigators, bondsmen, and other private entities will now only be able to access the records by submitting "qualifying requests" in person or by mail or fax.
